Austria is a popular destination for international students who want to study at well-regarded universities.
Moving to Austria on the strength of a job offer from an Austrian employer, and then an Austrian work permit, is one of the faster routes into the country.
Austria issues Schengen short-stay visas that are often valid for up to six months, but they allow a maximum stay of 90 days in any 180-day period. Holders can travel and sightsee, but cannot work or study full time except in limited cases.

Finding the Canada tourist visa process confusing?
A Canadian visitor visa is permission to travel to Canada for a limited period, for tourism, to visit family or to attend an event. Knowing the requirements, the documents and the steps before you apply makes for a stronger application.
This section explains what the visitor visa is, who can apply, what it costs, how long it lasts, and the questions applicants ask most.
A Canada visitor visa, formally a Temporary Resident Visa, is permission for temporary travel to Canada for a set period. It suits people travelling for tourism, family visits or short business trips.
Key features of the Canada visitor visa:
Visa type:
Single Entry (one entry)
Multiple Entry (repeat entries)
Validity:
Usually up to 10 years, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first
Each stay is normally up to 6 months
Purpose of travel:
Tourism and holidays
Visiting family and friends
Short business trips, with no right to work
The Canada tourist visa, or visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa), is issued to people who want to travel to Canada for sightseeing, to visit relatives, or to attend a conference or business meeting.
It belongs to Canada’s temporary resident visas and comes in three forms:
A single-entry visa lets you enter Canada once. After you leave, the visa is used up and you have to apply again to return. Officers issue single-entry visas only in limited cases, such as a one-off official visit.
The multiple-entry visa is the standard result. It can be valid for up to 10 years, or until one month before the passport expires, whichever comes first. Each entry normally allows a stay of up to six months, and a border services officer sets the exact period when you arrive.
Note: a visitor visa does not give you the right to work in Canada. You may take a short course of six months or less, but longer study needs a study permit.
The super visa is a long-stay, multiple-entry visa for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
The Canada super visa differs from an ordinary multiple-entry visa in how long each visit can last. It can be valid for up to 10 years, and:
Applicants also need private medical insurance that meets IRCC’s rules, plus a child or grandchild in Canada who meets an income threshold and signs a letter of support.
To be approved for a visitor visa you have to satisfy an officer on several points. The main ones are:
A visitor visa application is normally supported by the following documents:
If you apply without a letter of invitation, add:
The application runs through the steps below.
Applications are made online. Create an account on the IRCC portal and answer the eligibility questions, and the system produces a personal document checklist. Download the forms, complete them in full and upload them with your supporting documents.
Anything not in English or French needs a translation with the translator’s certification or affidavit. An incomplete file is one of the most common reasons applications are refused.
Step three: biometrics
Most applicants give fingerprints and a photograph at a Visa Application Centre after they apply. IRCC sends a biometric instruction letter explaining what to do.
Processing time depends on where you apply from and how many applications that office is handling, and it can run past the published average.
Check IRCC’s official processing-time tool for the current estimate for your country, and apply at least three months before you plan to travel, giving your biometrics as soon as you are asked.
If you have given biometrics for a Canadian application in the last 10 years, they are still valid, so you do not pay the fee or attend a centre again.
The visitor visa fee is CAD 100 per person, plus CAD 85 for biometrics, which is CAD 185 in total. If your biometrics are still valid, you do not pay that part. A family applying together pays a maximum of CAD 170 for biometrics.
Budget as well for travel to a Visa Application Centre, translations, photographs and any police certificate. None of that is refunded if the application is refused, which is why the basics matter:
Decisions rest with IRCC officers, and no adviser can guarantee an outcome.
You have to show an officer that you can pay for the trip. The documents that usually count are:
All of these are accepted as proof of funds.
How much you need depends on the trip and on who is paying. If a close relative in Canada invites you and undertakes to cover your costs, you can show less of your own money, and they should supply their own financial documents.
There is no published minimum balance for a visitor visa. IRCC does not set a figure; the officer decides whether your funds are enough for the length and style of trip you have described. As a working guide, plan to cover flights, accommodation, insurance and daily costs for every day you intend to stay.
A visitor visa is not renewed from inside Canada. When it expires you apply again from the start: use your current passport, complete fresh forms, and provide up-to-date financial and employment documents. A clean record on the earlier visa, meaning you left on time and respected its conditions, counts in your favour, although every application is assessed on its own merits.
If you need advice on a Canadian visitor visa, on extending your status inside Canada, or on moving from visitor status to a work permit, Aval Visa is a licensed Canadian immigration practice and can review your options with you. The decision itself rests with IRCC.
