US Consulate Dubai: Visa Appointments, Address and Documents

Table of contents

Almost every US visa application ends with an interview at a US embassy or consulate. Applicants who cannot be interviewed where they live, because there is no US mission there or because visa services are suspended, apply as third-country nationals at a post abroad. Dubai is one of the busiest of those posts, and a practical choice for many people planning immigration to the US. This guide covers the address of the US Consulate General in Dubai, how to get there, the contact details and the hotels closest to it.

Status as of 6 October 2026: According to the US Mission’s visa page, routine visa processing is not available in the UAE at this time, at either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, and the page does not say when it will resume. The notice dated 1 March 2026 says routine visa services in the UAE are suspended. Visa application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you are an Iranian national, another restriction applies: the entry of Iranian nationals into the US was already suspended, and Presidential Proclamation 10998, in force since 1 January 2026, continues that suspension, for both immigrants and nonimmigrants. The State Department has suspended visa issuance to Iranian nationals in line with the proclamation. The exceptions are limited. Lawful permanent residents, dual nationals travelling on the passport of a country the proclamation does not list, and immigrant visas for ethnic and religious minorities facing persecution in Iran are among them. If you held a valid visa on 1 January 2026, the proclamation does not apply to you. Details are on the State Department’s page.

How to book a US Consulate Dubai visa appointment

The first step for any US visa is the DS-160 form. Once that is submitted, you pay the fee and schedule the interview.
When routine visa processing is available, the appointment process runs as follows (read the notice above before you pay, because visa application fees are non-refundable):

  • Create an account on the US visa appointment service for the United Arab Emirates
  • Complete the DS-160 visa application form
  • Pay the US visa fee for the Dubai appointment

According to the US Mission’s website on 6 October 2026, routine visa processing is not available in the UAE, so there is no reliable current waiting time to quote for Dubai. The State Department also says applicants who apply outside their country of nationality or residence should expect to wait significantly longer for an appointment. The State Department also publishes figures for Dubai and the other UAE posts in its wait-time tool, which it updates monthly, so read them against the notice above.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Which posts handle third-country national applicants in the region? The State Department says nonimmigrant visa applicants should book at the US embassy or consulate in their country of nationality or residence, and its designated-post table lists Dubai for Iranian nationals. For immigrant visas, its list of posts includes Ankara and Yerevan for Iran. But according to the US Mission’s website on 6 October 2026, routine visa processing is not available in the UAE, and Proclamation 10998 applies to Iranian nationals (see the notice at the top of this page). Before you book or pay, check the website of the post you plan to use, because visa application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  2. What is the cheapest way to get to the US Consulate in Dubai? The bus and the metro are the cheapest options for reaching the consulate.
  3. Who is exempt from the US visa interview? Very few applicants. The State Department now requires an in-person interview for nearly all nonimmigrant visa applicants, and the former age-based waivers for children and older applicants no longer apply in most cases. A small number of categories, mainly diplomatic and official travel, remain exempt. Check the current rules on the mission website before assuming an exemption applies.
